Description (provided by submitter): Key Metric Monitoring - The aggregate metric used on this report is called the Confidence Index, which is visually displayed on the main page used to track individuals' progress. Students with less engagement or needing more assistance are shown at the top (lower confidence) and students who are deemed more prepared for the program and require less outreach from staff are placed at the bottom (higher confidence). It was built like this to keep higher priority contacts more visible at the top of the page. Visual/Dashboards - Several sheets used on this report are designed with visuals in mind - anyone should be able to open it up and draw conclusions based on the data shown. Scales, graphs, and leader tables are used to compare current and previous incoming population metrics, and visualize student survey data and progression, on a broader scale. Drill-Down Capability - The report also offers the ability to see individual student information. If we know Sally is having a hard time getting acclimated to the program, it's very useful to pull up her individual information to see what the cause may be. Is she using the correct device? Is she putting in the effort by spending time on the site? Sometimes the problem lies outside of our more formulated data, is there something we can point to from her contact history? Cross Tabulate Learning Data with Performance - This is really the main focus of the report. What can we tell about our future show-rates and how retention will be impacted, based on performance and progression from our current incoming population? But knowing this is only half the battle. Once we're able to determine which students are negatively impacting these numbers, what can we do to help? What conversations could we have to assist students with the issues they're experiencing? Combining what we know and developing tools to target pain-points is a very powerful method to change negatives to positives. Ease of Use and Extensibility - I believe these two criteria go hand-in-hand. Our dashboards pull information automatically from several places including our LMS (time in site/course & activity completion), student surveys (familiarity with online learning/devices), and use API's (student contact history). If updating any of these things was a manual process that would make the report significantly less user-friendly. I try to take a scalable approach to everything, meaning if our population is 10 students today would the same report or tool also work with 100 students? Making everything automated and visually telling is a great way to increase user-friendliness. Innovation - All of the data points used on this report were narrowed down over months of research - figuring out how certain actions should be weighted when calculating the confidence index, but also removing data that had less of an impact than originally thought. When dealing with online culinary education it's hard to look at historic findings because it's such a new concept. The first question we always get is: how does that even work? I can't tell you how it should work but we have a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn't, and that's the best place to start. "Data is like garbage. You'd better know what you are going to do with it before you collect it."

It uses data from online interactions, and historical info to build a statistically significant prediction of future grades, within 2 weeks of beginning a course. We have published our backend processes and won awards for our innovations in data science applied to online learning (Learning Impact award among others). With the risk prediction information instructors can take action on specific learners, or patterns of behaviour using our extensive framework for providing personalized learning at scale (think of an IFTTT style LMS) Our analytics suite meets the criteria specifically because: - The platform is built for responsive web -- so it works across all mobile devices and requires no installation or fragmented os-specific updates - It monitors the key metrics that the trainers choose -- so could be discussion participation, content time/reads, performance on assessments -- or a combination. The ability to create and customise learning outcomes easily and intuitively is an option that not many learning management systems provide. With eCoach LMS, learning outcomes can be mapped down to the granular level, from modules, to specific lesson screens, to individual quiz questions. With over 100,000 members, an analytics and metrics system is provided for members and administrators. The “Stats” feature shows two parts: My Activities and Path to Expertise (Path2X). Activities show all the activities by members and their records of what content they have attended. Content comes from over 50,000 sources, from webinars, to recordings, white papers, videos, etc. and over 40,000 blogs which is pulled from leading bloggers in the blogosphere. The Path to Expertise analytics shows a unique picture for the members a trends report on what subjects and categories they have covered while in TMN. The value of Path2X is to assist members to curve a learning plan and record all their insights. They can also share, publish and update the information as needed. Path2X data can be integrated with an API and XAPI for transfer and exchange of member data.
